Client Consultation and Preparation Client Record Cards Information required for the clients record card:
~ Name Address & Telephone number - This will ensure that your records are complete & accurate. This information will enable you to contact the client id required e.g. If you need to change the appointment or inform her of any special offers etc.
~ Date of Birth. If the client is under 16 years of age a letter of consent is required from a parent or guardian
~ Occupation & Lifestyle. This information helps the Nail technician to advise the most suitable nail system for the client & may also indicate reasons for any skin & nail problems. It will inform if the nails need to be certain length for the client's occupation. Here are some examples of questions to ask your client; 1.Are your hands often in water? 2.What hobbies do you have? e.g. Gardening? 3.Do you frequently have 'fiddly' jobs to attend to?
~ Medical History; Allergies If the client were prone to allergies or had intolerance to chemicals or cosmetic substances then a patch test must be carried out at least 24 - 48 hours prior to treatment.
Patch Test Procedure 1. Cleanse & dry the area in the crease of the elbow 2. Apply the products in small dots & leave for 5 minutes 3. Remove the excess with cotton wool 4. Advise the client to cleanse the area after 48 hours.
Positive Reaction (the client is allergic to the products & cannot have the treatment) Inflammation, irritation & swelling of the skin in the test area - may take up to 48 hours to appear.
Negative Reaction (the client is not allergic & can proceed with the treatment) No change in the appearance of the skin in the test area.
~ Diabetes Diabetics can be slow to heal & may have poor circulation
~ Other Loss of sensation in hands & fingers, any past nails & skin condition that could reoccur, or heart conditions that could affect circulation in the extremities need to be noted. Contra - Indications to Nail Extensions
Contra - indications are conditions that either prevent the treatment from being carried out or restrict the treatment in some way.
The following conditions prevent a nail treatment from being carried out
* Inflammation & swelling in the area
* Open wounds; cuts & abrasions
* Loss of sensation
* Severe bitten nail if infection is present
* Allergy to nails cosmetics e.g. contact dermatitis
* Infected hang nail
* Severe skin conditions if skin is broken e.g. eczema, psoriasis
* Skin diseases
* Nail diseases
Skin conditions not contra-indicated (if condition is not severe)
