~ Preparing your Work Area

Your Working Area
A Nail technician needs to work in a well ventilated room. ideally fitted with an extractor fan to
remove dust & fumes from the atmosphere. The temperature of the room should be so as not to
affect the "curing" rate of the product used. Adequate lighting should be provided.
Equipment
Technicians Desk
This should be at the correct height & width, so as to allow the technician to work comfortably,
without over stretching & avoiding neck, back & arm strain. The same consideration must be made for the client receiving treatment. Ideally it should have drawers for storage.
Technicians Chair
This must have the correct support for the user. The seat should be padded & of a depth that support the legs. The backrest should provide adequate support. The combination of these should encourage the correct sitting position.
Clients Chair
The same considerations for the Technicians chair must also apply to the client¡¦s chair.
Magnifying / desk lamp
This should provide good lighting to avoid eyestrain whilst carrying out close work. Direct light
rather than that which cast a shadow is needed to successfully perform artificial nail extensions.
Safety Glasses
To protect the technicians eyes from products squirting from their containers or clippings from nail tips etc.
Dust Mask
These are used by some Nail Technicians to protect against dust inhalation: they are disposable and should be changed every few days.
Drills
Electric Drills are mostly used with the Acrylic Liquid & powder systems, they can have variable
speed controls & different drill bits for different functions e.g. shaping, buffing. There are different drills on the market:
Micro motors ~ these have a hand piece for the drill & the controls are on a separate box
Hand-Held micro motors ~ drills & control are mounted on the hand piece
The use of drills causes one of the biggest debates in the nail industry & most technicians are
divided over their use.
Waste Bin
This must have a self closing lid. lined with a bin liner & emptied after every treatment to avoid the build-up of fumes in the atmosphere.
