Different Nail Systems There are 3 main systems: ~ Liquid and powder system ~ UV Gel System ~ Fibreglass system The Liquid and powder system (acrylic nails) This uses a liquid and powder that, when mixed together creates a chemical reaction to form a solid. Advantages of liquid and powder: * Successful sculpting can produce nail extensions that are flexible, thin and natural looking. * A permanent French Manicure can be achieved * It is the strongest system for heavy handed clients * Maintenance is quick and easy once mastered * It can correct irregular natural nail shapes. Disadvantages of this system * It takes time to remove * It is time consuming when learning * Dust could be a problem until proficient * It is most difficult to master * Odours can be a problem in some environments * Some systems need a primer The UV Gel System This is a pre-mixed product that when exposed to UV Light, forms into a solid. Advantages of UV Gel * It is very easy to apply * Gels are low odour, which some clients and environments prefer * Gels can be slightly more flexible than some other systems. * There is always a permanent high gloss shine when finished *They can look very natural when applied correctly Disadvantages of this system: * Good ventilation must still be used ¡V low odour products are no safer to use than those with a higher odour. * Gels are not as strong as liquid and powder * They are not as easy to remove and repair if they crack or break as other systems. * Gels cannot be soaked off and have to be buffed away * A complete cure is necessary or overexposure can occur * Gels carry a higher risk of allergic reaction due to their sticky heavy consistency: never allow gel to touch the skin * Some gels can create a "heat" sensation on curing under a UV light.
The Fibreglass System This system uses the strength of a fabric mesh made from fibreglass, silk or linen with a resin that hardens. Advantages of Fibreglass * Nail extensions are flexible, thin and natural looking. * It is a very versatile system for repairs or overlays of the natural nail. * It is easy and quick to remove with a little or no damage to the natural nail. Disadvantages of Fibreglass * It is difficult to correct irregular shaped natural nail shapes * Not as strong as other systems * The product "ages" more quickly than other system * A spray activator can cause respiratory problems, so a mask may have to be worn. * Some spray activators can also cause problems for clients with sensitive skin * It is time consuming when learning Click here to see nail enhancement products
